When I was in college I had a roommate from Boston who not only had a thick Boston accent, but also had a love for body butter. Or as she called it, Bawdy Buwddah. To this day, Robby and I cannot say it without our heartiest Boston accents, so I now present to you the easiest, fastest, best smelling gift to give....
Coconut Bawdy Buwddah.
I needed a simple gift to hand out, and as much as I like to make treats.....there are so many sweets being given this time of year, and I thought it might be nice to do something different. I ran across this tutorial for whipped coconut oil and just knew I had to try it.
I love coconut oil, and use it in everything--really.
-Cooking
-Baking
-For my skin
-For my girl's skin--she is so sensitive to almost any lotion, and this is so gentle.
For my hair--I literally have the horsiest hair you have ever felt, and I use coconut oil to smooth it down (I don't know if this would work with fine/thinner hair--it might be too greasy, but it works great on mine)
My house is old and cold, and this time of year my coconut oil is ridiculously hard. It come out in chunks, and while it quickly melts, I liked the idea of whipping it to keep it soft. I was skeptical as to whether it would really stay soft.....and I am so happy to report that it DOES! I made my first batch last week and it is still soft and smooth and easy to lather on.
Homemade Coconut Body Butter
aka. whipped coconut oil
all you need is
.....coconut oil. really!
I also added 1-2tsp vitamin E oil (per cup of coconut oil)
on the other tutorial she added a few drops of essential oil. I skipped this part this time, but it would be fun to play around with different scents.
Add your coconut oil (in solid form) to bowl.
Add vitamin E oil/essential oil if using.
Use stand OR hand mixer, and turn on high and whip for about 7 minutes.
(stop a few times to scrape sides)
Add your fluffy whipped oil to small jars and keep on hand to smooth over winter skin, or hand out as Christmas gifts.
*edited to add.
THIS is a great price on good coconut oil--and check out all the sizes they carry.
As far as all natural skin moisturizers go, you can't beat the price of coconut oil.
I've made several batches of this now, and after experimentation I've found
-I like it more with 2tsp of vitamin E oil per cup of coconut oil. It's softer and fluffier and while it's just fine without oil at all, it stays softer WITH oil.

And......
As a thank you for all your support this year, and
my Merry Christmas to YOU,
I'd like to give away a jar of my coconut body butter.

I love Christmas eve at my grandma's house best!!
my favourite thing about christmas is christmas eve. every year after my family gets home from church, we each open one gift from each other and then sit down to a big dinner. after dinner we always watch it's a wonderful life and it's my favourite tradition ever.
I'd love to test your body butter!!! My favorite thing about Christmas is to see all my family together (parents, sister and all the children)
Happy Christmas!!!
Love this! I'm definitely going to try and make this for my mom this Christmas (and maybe a bit for me). My favorite thing about Christmas is decorating the tree with my dad while a Christmas movie is on television. We've done it every year since I was a little kid and it still gets me excited as an adult! :)
Spending time with family!
dirty santa on christmas eve -- we sit in a circle and laugh and heckle. in a room of old plaid shirts, wool socks, winter appetizers, hot mugs of things...it's the best.
Oh man, that's like asking what my favorite food is (impossible to choose). One of my favorites is our Christmas Eve fondue with the whole family after the Christmas Eve service at our church. Mmmmm.
Thats so simple and when you package it the way you did it turns into the cutest gift ever! I would love to test it out!
My favorite thing about Christmas is planning and searching for that perfect gift for each person on my list and then spending all day with family members, no schedules or work to complete, just time together.
Yessss!! ooh I hope I win! thank you, Sheena! (coconut oil isn't cheap, I know!)

Favorite thing about Christmas?? Definitely the time with family, the traditions we enjoy and the snow adventures. :)
Love this! I still need to make my own coconut oil.. We make a salve with coconut oil and cocoa butter, adding essential oils as we rub it on. Little one likes to eat it. ha!

I love it all. The lights that replace the darkness. The smells that take me back to being a child (oranges, cookies, peppermint). The time spent with family, the most important of all!
The smell and the lights. Gets me in a good mood every time!
hmmm ... anything with pumpkin in it. :)

I love Christmas music and family traditions. The best.
only 1 favorite!?
christmas game night with my family, in our pjs, with our favorite treats just enjoying each other and the twinkle lights!!
So many things I love about Christmas, but last night was a first favorite, even though it made me cry...I was listening to Christmas Music and the song Silver Bells came on. It was my Grandma, Iris', favorite. The song triggered memories of her that made me miss her terribly and smile sweetly thinking of her, and then of course cry because of it all.
I'm thankful for MEMORIES - past and presently being made with loved ones at this special time of the year.
I love the anticipation of it. The month full of holiday festivities, everyone in a good mood, cheer spread everywhere. It makes Christmas feel longer than just 1day.
My favorite thing about Christmas is the smell of a real Christmas tree! You can't beat it!!
I love the idea of whipping the coconut oil--I'd never thought of that.
My favorite part of Christmas is decorating the tree. My parents give my siblings and me an ornament every year for St. Nicholas day, and it's always so much fun to go through the boxes each year and rediscover the previous years' decorations.
My favorite thing about Christmas is making a birthday cake for Jesus and singing Happy Birthday with my family! And I love colorful, big, christmas lights!
I LOVE this idea! I am trying to make all sorts of creative gifts this year and this is so perfect.
My favorite thing about Christmas is Christmas eve. My family goes over to my Oma and Opa's (Grandma and Grandpa's) house for dinner and we open presents from our cousins in Germany. And every year my aunt puts on a CD of German children singing Christmas songs.
my favourite thing about christmas is the way this winter celebration draws on so many traditions and cultures and is essentially a beautiful celebration of the return of the light, whether it's in the form of a baby savior, a celebration of miraculous oil or the all-encompassing darkest day of the year that begins the tilting and shifting of the earth and sun in the gorgeous dance that sustains all life on earth.
and i adore whipped coconut butter SO much. .. the only thing that keeps my skin hydrated in cold, dry, woodstove-warmed winters in Maine!
xo jenny
oh, i love this idea! i've been wanting to try coconut oil for my skin, but hadn't heard of a way other than melting it and applying with a cotton ball. this definitely seems more streamlined. my favorite thing about christmas? hmm... i think i just love the season... being cozy at home with a fire and burning candles and cookies in the oven!
I'm not just saying this, but my absolute favorite thing about Christmas is that Jesus was born. One of my favorite Christmas song sums it up well:
God has sent his greatest treasure
Shown his love in greatest measure
Sending Christ to bleed and suffer
Purchasing our joy forever
Let the earth rejoice
O come and lift your voices
("Christ the Lord is Born today", Sov. Grace Music)
I love this idea! I'm going to make this for sure!
That looks like a canning jar that you used... What size did you use?
Thanks!
And my favorite thing about Christmas is EVERYTHING about Christmas!
My favorite thing about Christmas (besides seeing the joy in my children's smiles all season long) is going to the mailbox and receiving REAL MAIL for a change!

My favorite thing about Christmas is time at home... with my family, Christmasy smells and Christmas music floating through the house, lights twinkling, and actual cloudy (or *GASP* rainy!) skies outside my Arizona window. :D
My favorite thing about Christmas is my family. So cliche, but nothing beats getting together with my sisters and having them around for the holidays to dance to Mannheim Steamroller and eat ridiculous amounts of chocolate.
My favorite thing about Christmas is seeing other people open their gifts. I love it when other people are really happy with what they received. But I also love family time and Christmas lights.

i'm all about the tree!! i love the smell, the lights, and how it makes me feel like i'm *home*. :)
(ps. totally trying this super-easy recipe! thanks sheena!)
It's hard to explain, but I love the romance of the holiday. Turning off the lights, turning on the twinkle lights, buring some candles and dancing with the one you love infront of the tree. Nothing in the world is more romantic....give it a try after you get the kids in bed!
Oh I love this!!! So do you buy coconut oil at the grocery store? I have never used it.
my friend just told me about the wonders of coconut oil! i hope it's my lucky day!
my favorite thing about Christmas is Jesus. He is the reason for the season!
My favorite part of Christmas is the feeling of people recognizing we are all human! There is a connection at this time of year between most people that isn't around the rest of the year. xoxo

It's not Christmas unless I am with my family! My favorite thing about the holidays- being with them!
Now that my daughter is a little bit older, it's seeing her excitement about decorating and making our home ready for the holidays. She looks for specific decorations, wants them in the same places every year.
Those moments we share are completely priceless.
My favourite thing about Christmas:

2. cooking/baking the meals, cakes with my mom

My favourite things about Christmas:
- Fairy lights, both inside and outside
- Getting to go home and see family & friends
- Cosiness
My church hosts an event called Christmas Under the Stars. We sit outside under twinkly lights, read the Christmas story, and sing carols while sipping hot chocolate! Always my favorite event of the season!
My favorite thing about Christmas is listening to Christmas music all day. It makes it all feel so nostalgic! Also, I used the same coconut oil (the big tub from Costco) and I just separate it into jars - one for cooking, one for skin/hair care. It's great for cooking (especially air-popped popcorn!) and I LOVE it on skin! I've even been using it as deodorant for the last 8 months with huge success! I really don't like the cold chunks, though. Whipping it is a great idea!
My favorite thing about Christmas is spending it with my family. Last Christmas my oldest son was deployed in Afghanistan, so we missed him. He's home now, & we just find out he & his wife are expecting my first grandchild, & I couldn't be happier!
