two obsessions, and one confession

Obsession 1: bread
Obsession 2: taking pictures of it (and any other food)
Confession: I want to make a cook book. No, really.
It would be so fun.

  • Honey Whole Wheat Bread
  • 1 1/2 c warm water
  • 1 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast
  • 1/3 c honey
  • 2 1/2 c all purpose flour
  • 2 TBS butter, melted
  • 1/2 TBS salt
  • 1 3/4 c whole wheat flour
  • 1/4c ground flax seed

Mix water, yeast, and honey. Let sit for 20 minutes.
Add to bread machine (Yes, I'm a cheater)
Add remaining ingredients.
Use "dough" setting.

Take out of bread machine and let rise once more.

brush with olive oil and sprinkle with oats.
Bake at 375° for 40 minutes.

take picture, and eat.

  • edited to add: Yes. I use a breadmaker. I use that precious time while it's kneading and mixing and magically forming my bread dough to work on my table, play princess, work on my table in a princess dress, and clean my toilet. I am so greatful for that blessed machine. This can be made without one.
  • Let your water, yeast and honey sit for the 20 minutes, as above.
  • Mix in remaining ingredients. Knead on floured surface until it can easily pull away from the counter, but still a bit sticky to the touch. Place in greased bowl, cover with towel and let rise until doubled.
  • Punch down, and form loaf, or place in loaf pans and let rise again.

MAKING THIS. But I have no bread maker? What to do?

Did you brush the top of the loaf with anything before baking? Or just sprinkle the oats on the naked top?

I love bread so so so much.

your food always looks delish! I was wondering if you can give some healthful advice...
Most diets out there tell you to skip wonderful carbs like bread and desserts in order to lose weight and yet you are itty bitty..so do you find that just exercising regularly affords u the ability to eat whatever, like because you're an avid runner and such. I suppose hereditary and metabolism are factors as well but I'd luv to hear your nutrition and exercise advice to those of us who want to be cute hot mommies like you... thx!

a copyright? Is that new? How will I steal pictures from your blog when we run out of food during our ice storm? I'm I'm stuck eating paper, I at least want it to have a photo of that bread on it.

How do you cook it if we aren't all so lucky as to have a bread machine... did the recipe tell you how in the oven??

I made bread all last winter but when summer came I gave it up. I haven't managed to get back into it yet, but this is inspiring me to get cracking.

wait. hold it. i remember you saying once upon a time that you didn't make bread. is that right? am i making this up?

i want to know what cured you of that.

my bread makings (besides pizza dough and cinnamon rolls) tend to not work out too well. but dang you make that look good!!!

hayley: once upon a time I did NOT make bread. not even pizza crust (at least pizza crust that tasted good). but I have been DETERMINED to make it work, and so far, two times it has.

I just made this recipe. It tastes super! The recipe says to make a loaf or place in pans (plural). My loaves turned out to be pretty short. (Maybe I didn't let the second rise go long enough?!) Can you tell more about what size loaf pans you used or whether this recipe should go into one loaf pan? Thanks!
