the weekly juice

My juicer is back in action!
I love pouring the kids a glass as we start school in the morning.
It's been icy and cold, with snow over the weekend--so not exactly feeling like spring quite yet.
But this green juice tastes like spring to me--lots of bright "green" flavor, a great way to start out the day.
My boy loves it (I have yet to find a juice he doesn't like), my girl wrinkles up her nose and holds a bit of a grudge with any of my green juices...but she eventually drinks it down.
I love anything with greens in it, and this one is also really good with a small piece of beet thrown in. It makes the WORST color juice, but I love the earthy taste.

Bonus: I mentioned before with another green juice, I take out the kale and spinach pulp (juice these first) and sauté them in some olive oil, throw in some sundried tomatoes, pine nuts, and parm, and toss it with pasta.

my favorite recent juice is a very simple one- green apple and lemon! I usually do 3 apples to 1/2 lemon per serving. I love tart flavor though and this one is tart- almost like a sour mix. Adding ginger or honey would be good too. Yum!

My favorite juice that I have almost every morning is:

2 granny smith apples
2 oranges
5 large carrots
6 large strawberries
1/2 inch of ginger root
and on occasion I add in a handful of fresh parsley.

Soooo good.

I love pineapple, grapes & celery. I usually just make up the quantity depending what needs to be used up :)

Oooh good idea with sauteeing the greens! That alone makes me want to drag out the juicer. We started remodeling the kitchen, so anything kitchen-related makes me roll my eyes a little right now...

I made a concoction of beet, kale, apple, spinach, celery, carrot, cucumber, lime, lemon and ginger. Tasted yummy and had lots of colors in it!

We juice 6-8 kale leaves, 1 cucumber, 1 zuchini, 2-6 celery stalks, 4-6 carrots, 1 large gala or fugi apple, 1 grapefruit, 1 lemon, 1 navel orange, 1 tomato...this is an original reciepe we call "Melton's 10 to WIN." Makes between 34-46 oz depending largely on the size of the carrots and celery stalks. We juice at night and pour into air-tight glass jars and refrigerate. We take for lunch in a cold bag and drink w/in 14-17hrs of making. Should last for 24 hrs if poured to top, sealed air-tight and kept cold. This usually provides about 15 oz each for 3 of us. Yummy! We use organics except for the oranges and grapefruits whch we peel
