summer skin

snow canyon utah // the little red house
we arrived with the night.
a chill in the air,
a squish of sand beneath our feet.
we threw our tent up under the star painted sky.

the morning sun rose over red rock,
slowly warming our sleepy bones.
the chill melted into the sand,
we peeled away our layers.

jackets. hats. socks.
shoes had to go.
our winter skin shone bright in the sun.
at last.

we played.
hiked. climbed. explored.
dug toes deep into the soft red earth.
stained our skin.

bruised knees.
scraped elbows.
sand covered,
head to toe.

we stretched out on the rocks
under an ocean of blue.
we baked away the winter,
soaking up every last drop.

the sun kissed our skin.
warm. hot.
reminding us
of summer.

Sheena, I just love your blog and your posts. Sometimes I feel so overwhelmed by the blogs out there. They are just soooo perfect, you know? So much time and money spent on each part. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy reading, I enjoy the photos, but there is just something so refreshing and real about coming to your space here on the internet and reading. It reminds me that real life is still the most important thing and that these blogs are great, but not the end all. You inspire me, girl! Keep on keeping on with this beautiful family of yours!

Ahhh- bare feet and sun-kissed skin! Thank you for reminding me that spring is near- and that we are lucky enough to have playgrounds like these so close to home.
