I don't know about you, but for our family.....not a lot happens in winter. We're kind of boring. No big family vacations, no camping trips, no all day festivals with parades and fireworks, no soccer games, no races.....nothing.
So instead, we celebrate the little things.
Family movie night.
Trips to the Library.
Lunch with daddy.
An almost-60° day. This one was kinda a big deal. Shorts went on, shoes came off, the windows and doors were opened and burgers were grilled. In winter!!
Chocolate Chip Pizookie
1/2 c butter
1/4 c white sugar
3/4 c brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 c all purpose flour
3/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1 cup chocolate chips (I used a combo of milk and bittersweet)
pecans (optional)
Cream the butter and the sugars until light. Scrape down the side of the bowl. Continue mixing while adding the egg-mix until incorporated. Add the vanilla. Scrape down the bowl with a spatula. Combine the flour, soda and salt in another bowl. With a whisk, stir to combine. With the machine on low, slowly add the flour mixture. Mix until just combined, careful not to over mix. Fold in the chocolate.
Press dough into greased tart pan.
Top with pecans if you like (we like).
Bake at 350° for 12-15 minutes. We like our pizookie underdone, so it's nice and gooey in the middle. If you want it more done, bake it longer, well no kidding.
Serve immediately with vanilla ice cream and lots of spoons.

we're kind of a boring family all year round...we don't vacation. however, we do renovate. it was very warm monday, the doors were open, my little man decided to clean his room(and for being 13, that's huge), the moose laid in the sun all day, little lady and sweetie pie ran around the yard barefoot (highly discouraged for feb.) and the lusty woodsman came home early. it was bliss.
ps. me want your pizookie!
i still have yet to make a pizookie! hmmm, i may just make one this week, i soooooo need it. ;) i have a question though, i have a pie dish that this sorta looks like, but i also have a tart dish that looks like this...which one do i use?? thanks!!
Yay yay yay! Thank you for including the pizookie recipe. Can't wait to make it!
So did you get a pass to the children's museum? We were up there Monday b/c Justin had the day off. It was gloriously empty. I love that place empty and I kind of hate it when it's busy.
I'm not a huge burger fan but that burger looked beeeautiful! Yum.
Oopsie, that was me.
I'm enjoying your blog! Came through "In my tennis shoes" and so glad I did!:)
I want that burger!!
Love your 'little things' you do in the wintertime! Cute lunch date pics!
we make up holidays (gringo fiesta anyone?) when we run out of things to celebrate.
That Pizcookie looks fabulously delicious. I think I'm going to have to make that. Tonight.
Great blog :)

Delightful Bitefuls
that burger is driving me nuts.. yumm!! we are enjoying eating lots of oranges, watching "top chef" and our nbc thursday shows, going to basketball games, and getting to bed at a good time.
Yum! All of your photos look great, plus it sounds like you're having fun too! I can't wait to try the recipe for that giant cookie!
I'm enjoying bundling up and taking walks (when it's not obnoxiously cold). It relieves the feeling of being trapped indoors. But if I have to be trapped, baked goods are pretty enjoyable too. :-)
They both looks amazing! Not much going on around here either - just counting down till spring!
our winter is full of basketball! my husband is a coach...so that is what we do. luckily the little guy doesn't seem to mind to much :)
we also celebrated 46 degrees here today with a half mile walk around the block! it was way colder than i thought it would be but we put on a hat, wrapped up baby in the moby wrap + wore dad's zip up hoodie & away we went! :)
