artist spotlight: Ashley Mae Hoiland

I am so excited to start up our artist spotlights and giveaways!! Check back every Wednesday!

Kicking things off is Ashley Mae Hoiland of Provo, UT and her shop Birds of Ashmae.
I have seen Ashley's work come up on a few other blogs and I am in LOVE with her style!

How long have you been painting? How did you get started? I've been painting for as long as I can remember. I used to stand behind my dad and watch him draw. I've always loved colors and the texture of putting paint on paper.

What is your favorite thing in your shop? I think the thing I love most in my shop is the little painting of the old fashioned bride. I don't know why, i just love it. Right after I painted it, I spilled an entire cup of water on it, and everything bled. I was sad for a little bit and then realized that I liked it even more because of the spill. ( i love this one too!)

What are your other hobbies? I love to play soccer, write, ride my bicycle and cook with vegetables.
What do you listen to while creating? I love listening to music while I paint. I listen to a lot of bjork, sigur ros, and lately laura veirs.
Because I am a food lover....what is your favorite thing to eat? My favorite thing to eat are tomato sandwich's with bread from the provo bakery and orange rosemary jam from annemade jams. I eat them everyday.

I also loooooove her personalized portraits! I will have one of these someday! Send in your photo and she will paint a custom portrait just for you!

Today Ashley is giving away any print from her shop! (excluding personalized portraits)

Just visit Birds of Ashmae, and leave a comment with your favorite print for a chance to win!
Also be sure to check out her cute blog.
Comments will be accepted until Thursday, 5/20 at midnight, and the winner will be announced on Friday.
Tweet/facebook/or blog and come back for an extra entry!

go!

I think the old-fashioned bride is also a stand-out, so darling, but for my house I think I would go with the peony. It's so delicate and pretty!

I love the "Old Fashioned Bride" as soon as I saw it I thought of the song by Midlake "Young Bride" such a pretty song.

But I also love the painting of the "Peone" it reminds me of growing up at my parents' house where my Mother had planted tons of beautiful Peones in the garden in the front.

They're all wonderful though - I love her style.
