Right now:
the chickens are out wandering the yard pecking for bugs and whatnot
the cat and dog are snuggled up together on the porch (it's the weirdest/funniest/seriously cutest thing)
the air is cool and blue and it feels so dark for afternoon
snow is coming this weekend.....we are ready. let's do this, winter.
all the laundry is folded. this is a miracle! too bad my kids will drop most of it on the way to their rooms and it will all get unfolded and dumped somewhere it probably doesn't belong.....you know what I'm talking about, right?
I need a good book. a REALLY good one. one I don't want to put down.....it's been awhile since I've read one of those--what do you suggest?
Right now my hands are stained from cutting beets
and my mouth is stained red from drinking this juice.
With a big piece of beet (mmmmm) it really isn't all that "fruity", but considering all that went into it I thought Fruit Punch was a fitting name. Add an apple if you like extra sweetness, but I liked it just like this.
Freshly Squeezed Fruit Punch
4 carrots
1 cup cranberries
1 grapefruit, peeled
1 lime, peeled
1/2 small beet (less if you don't love really beety juice.....I love it.)
1" piece of ginger (a little less if you are newer to juicing.....but I like a good ginger zing)
Stir in some chia seeds at the end for a little extra boost if you like.
What are you juicing this week? Tell me!
more juice:

Born to run by McDougall and for fiction; The Orchardist by Amanda Coplin was great.
We do the same kale, carrot, apple/pear with a shirt of lemon every day. I tried your other grapefruit recipe and we couldn't do it! Grapefruit just isn't my thing!
When you juice beets, do you just cut a chunk and toss it in or is there more prep work them that?
On, and our book club read the scent of rain and lightning last month. Really good. So is the kitchen house.
My favorite book: History of Love by Nicole Krauss
Ooh yum. I recently read the new novel called Longborne. Can't remember the authors name. It's the servants' side of the Pride and Prejudice story and it is sooo very good.
I would love to see a pic of the cat & dog together..sounds adorable!
Read the Kitchen House. I could not put it down!
Here are a few book recommendations. I'm currently reading A House in the Sky by Amanda Lindhout and it's fantastic! Another great book that may not be on your radar screen yet is The Gift of Rain by Tan Twan Eng. If you're looking for "non-fiction" reads about trail running/endurance racing, I recently finished both Eat and Run by Scott Jurek and Finding Ultra by Rich Roll. I'd recommend both of them as well.
Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn was soo good! Could not put it down. Also, I was wondering what brand/kind of juicer you use? I'm looking into buying one for Christmas. A present to myself, perhaps? ;)
Last night I started reading 'Brain on Fire: My Month of Madness' by Susannah Cahalan, so so good. Page turner for sure.
look so delicious :)
Your juices always look so good.
Have you read Blind your Ponies? It's set in Willow Creek, MT, and is about small town basketball. :)
hi sheena! i love reading your blog. your recipes and photos are so beautiful. i having been doing more juicing this week, because i am sick and that motivates me to eat/drink better (after the fact.) i have just been doing carrot/ginger and a peach/greens smoothie. this fruit punch one sounds amazing. definitely going to have to try it. one question i wanted to ask is you mentioned that you eat raw oats. what are raw oats and where do you purchase them? are they better for you because they have not been cooked? thanks! alison
The Snow Child, The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie, right now I'm reading The Forgotten Garden.
