Friday Love: Special Edition

I love moms. It's true.

Big ones.
Small ones.
Short ones.
Tall ones.

I love MY mom.
I love her mom.
I love your mom
and "your mom" jokes.

my grandma and her mom.
my mom and her mom.
me and my mom.

Today I am feeling so lovey, if you are a mom, or plan to be, or have a mother, then I probably love you.

But mostly I love BEING a mom.
It is really
truly
without any doubt
the best.

It is HARD. They tell you it will be....but you have no idea.

Interrupted sleep....not just when they are little...but every. single. night.
The whining. The screeching. It hurts.
The reaching-into-the-(used)-toilet-to-get-out-whatever-they-dropped.
ew.
Every possible situation involving poo.
Always having someone peek in at you while you are in the shower. always.
Being sick, and really wanting a sick day, but still having to "mom".
the messes. within messes. on top of messes.

hard stuff here.

denver hotel. august 2009

But it's even harder knowing they are growing so quickly.....so you have to make sure to enjoy

the hugs and squeezes and double wet kisses.
the silly things they say in the middle of the night
the snuggling....oh! the snuggling!
just thinking about the fact that YOU created this sweet little person.
they think you are beautiful. and cool. and the best. (and they tell you so!)
the handmade bracelets with "extra pink beads because you like pink"
pigtails. I will never stop thinking their bounce is the cutest thing in the world.

I am so happy to be a mother.
I have everything I need, in these two little people.

Happy Mothers Day Weekend!

ha ha haha ha

(sidenote: I actually know someone who's laugh literally sounds like they're saying "HA HA HA". It's hilarious)

oh today.....sigh.

today was long.

is it still today?

Today I really, REALLY needed a laugh.

I swung by Target for milk. Just milk.

But you and I both know that it is impossible to go to Target for just one thing. Especially when your husband has the children at home.

I didn't grab a cart, as to prevent myself from buying things I didn't need.

So instead I just filled up my arms, being careful to balance my purchases on my almost-hips and under my chin, because as it turned out, Target had lots of things I didn't need.

My arms were at full capacity when I rounded a corner (checking the end caps for clearance!), and had an almost-collision with a male shopper. I survived the near crash, with only a few things spilling out from my grasp.

One of them being the sports bra that I decided I "needed".

sidenote: have you met me? Then you know how hilarious that is in itself, because I really, truthfully, don't need it.

So blah blah blah. Sports bra falls down on the ground.

Oh ps.

It landed on his feet.

And then we both just stood there.

Do I pick it up?

Should he kick it off, like a little (bitty) pest?

Do I run away and pretend it wasn't mine?

I think an hour or so passed, while I went through these options. And he must have been doing the same........I actually don't recall how it ended up back in my hands, but I quickly paid for my "needs" and hurried home.

And then I laughed about it.

Sometimes awkward is really, really funny. And sometimes really, really funny, is just what I need.

Please tell me that you have awkward moments
that make your face turn red??
Will you share them?

Friday Love

As it may have been mentioned before.....we love cookies. Now I am a chocolate lover....and usually don't waste my time on making non-chocolate involved cookies....but these are very very worth it. Crispy on the outside, soft in the middle......cinnamony goodness.

Snickerdoodles (from Martha Stewart's Cookie Book)

2 3/4 c flour
2 t baking powder
1/2 t salt
1 cup butter (martha calls for unsalted.....I like salted)
1 1/2 c sugar
2 eggs
------
2T sugar
2 t cinnamon

1. Oven to 350°. Sift flour, baking powder and salt into a bowl. Mix butter and 1 1/2 c sugar on medium speed until pale and fluffy, about 3 minutes. Add eggs. Reduce speed to low, gradually mix in flour mixture.
2. Stir together cinnamon and 2T sugar. Shape dough into 20 1 3/4" balls (I actually like smaller cookies so I can eat more:). Roll in cinnamon and sugar. Space 3" apart on cookie sheet lined with parchment.
3. Bake 12-15 minutes until edges are golden, rotating halfway through. Cool on wire racks.
4. Eat.

I love the birds that are always outside my window.....it makes me think that spring may be coming soon.....at least I like to pretend.

I looooove these photos from last fall's Toast catalogue......they make winter seem beautifully cold, and almost.... ok.

It's me!! 1985. Where has the time gone?? Next week I celebrate the big 2-7 (gulp!)
I love that the party is starting.....tonight! Birthday weekend!

We love this song. They ruined it with the lame video, so today you're just getting the song. We listen to this every morning on the way up to preschool--it's my kids' favorite!

Happy Weekend!!!

What did you love about this week???
